Wastewater UV: Buyer Questions

Can UV treat raw sewage on its own?

UV is a disinfection stage within a treatment process. Upstream treatment must deliver water quality suitable for the selected UV system. Submit the treatment layout and treated-water analysis for assessment.

What information is needed for sizing?

Provide minimum, average and peak flow, UV transmittance, suspended solids, turbidity, BOD/COD where available, temperature and the required microbial performance and reuse application.

Can I choose a drinking-water UV model for wastewater?

Do not assume the same flow rating applies. Wastewater needs assessment against its UV transmission and treatment duty. Request a proposal for the actual inlet-water conditions.

Does adding UV guarantee compliance?

Compliance depends on the complete treatment process, operating conditions and applicable reuse requirements. Agree performance criteria, monitoring and commissioning tests for the project.
